John Shipman of Energy Efficiency Management, Inc. has been tapped to Program Coordinate and be an instructor for the California State University, Long Beach (CSULB), University College and Extension Services (UCES) Green and Sustainable Building Certificate Program, starting April 15.
John Shipman will co-teach this class in collaboration with Wes Harding from Harding Construction and Sustainable Solutions. Together they developed the curriculum for the course. The course is a comprehensive program which provides students with an in depth understanding of green and sustainable building, green and sustainable technologies, protecting the environment, and the "green challenge". Students learn about residential sustainable green building and compare and contrast green building programs and learn how and when to apply them.
Also, students will learn cutting-edge technologies and advancements in building science, building process and building materials for both new and existing buildings. They also will leave with an understanding of how to conserve natural resources, and how to make a home more energy efficient, healthier, green and more sustainable.
The course is meant to challenge everyone from contractors interested in green building to homeowners who are looking for more than just a thirty minute episode on television about green building. The best part is that the instructors encourage class participation and constantly challenge and engage the students in new and innovative green thought, which adds up to an often lively and interesting discussion.
John Shipman continues to bring his unique brand of "green passion" to the classroom and recommends this class for the green beginner to the green expert. The current class has everyone from local government employees, real estate professionals, contractors, architects, non-profit groups to homeowners. The class was picked to be showcased at CSULB's All University Celebration of Research, Scholarly and Creative Activity, which illustrate the diversity of the University's creative and scholarly accomplishments. CSULB's UCES has now been renamed to CSULB Continuing Education. You may index their course offerings on their web page. It should be noted that the CSULB University College and Extension Services has now changed their name to CSULB College of Continuing and Professional Education (CCPE). |
